We were joined on the Popternative show by Morfydd Clark and Charlie Vickers, who portray Galadriel and Sauron respectively, in Prime Video‘s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Throughout The Rings of Power Season 2, Sauron has been manipulating events as Annatar, the “Lord of Gifts”. However, the season’s finale showed that Galadriel uncovered the truth about Annatar and his workings with Celebrimbor.

The second season of The Rings of Power saw multiple stories coming around. From Galadriel seeking out Sauron’s plans by confronting Adar to Elrond and Gil-galad preparing for the worst, fans saw everything culminate in the fight for Eregion. Season 2 debuted as the #1 Original Series on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 Chart and remained in the top 4 throughout its entire run.

Talking about the fans’ excitement around the romantic undertones between Galadriel and Sauron, Morfydd mentions, “This was the best thing about when a show comes out because it ceases to be yours.”

“All our ideas about it become much less important than what they were when we were filming it and everybody’s kind of interpretation of it is just as valid as anyone else’s,” Morfydd continued. “Those are the types of conversations I’d love to have with my friends after I’ve watched something. So, I feel really happy that this is quite polarizing.”

“You relinquish any sort of control over what it is when you release it,” Charlie added. “I think their relationship is fascinating to watch. It is the polar opposite, it’s good and evil.”

Yet, in the final episode of The Rings of Power Season 2, some fans picked up on certain lines and moments that were mysteriously ominous. In Sauron’s final fight with Galadriel, he mentions how he never fully showcased all of his illusions to her. However, some believe this may be due to their deeper connection and what respect they still have.

“I think he’s saying, ‘I deceived you with a lot of things, but not all of it was deception,'” Charlie began.

“She was complicit,” Morfydd added. “She chose to ignore the warning signs and she was hungry for revenge. That was her biggest error, really, was to think that she could make these choices for Middle-earth.”
