We were joined back on the Popternative show by Diego Calva (On Swift Horses, Babylon) who plays Teddy Dos Santos in the second season of the spy thriller The Night Manager on Prime Video. Based on John le Carré’s novel, the newseason arrives ten years after the first season premiered in 2016. Season 2 premiered with the first three episodes on January 11.
Returning for Season 2 are Tom Hiddleston (The Life of Chuck, Loki) reprising his role as Jonathan Pine, Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, The Crown) as Angela Burr, Alistair Petrie (Andor, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Douglas Hodge (The Great, Joker), Michael Nardone (Napoleon, Traces), and Noah Jupe (Hamnet, A Quiet Place).
Calva joins Season 2 along with fellow newcomers Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six, Death Wish), Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi, This Way Up), Paul Chahidi (Ponies, This Country), and Hayley Squires (Beau Is Afraid, The Essex Serpent).
In Season 2, Jonathan (Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past as he is now living as Alex Goodwin – a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London. One night, however, a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads him to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Calva). As a result, he meets Roxana Bolaños (Morrone), a businesswoman who helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation.
On being a new cast member of a series, especially one that is returning after a decade, Calva says, “I know it’s a challenge not only for me, but for the producers, for Tom, for everyone. I think it’s pretty brave, but I also think it’s not a franchise, it’s a universe, right? There’s books. There’s an actual story, there’s this writer, his sons are two of the producers. And Tom [Hiddleston] has been working on this for more than a decade. So, I just felt really honored and welcomed. And I know it was a responsibility, that’s for sure. Once you get there, that’s when it really gets real.”
