We were joined on the Popternative show by Kristine Froseth (Looking for Alaska) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) to discuss Season 2 of the Apple TV+ drama series, The Buccaneers, which premiered on Wednesday, June 18. Inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel of the same name, the fun-loving young American girls are back with even more romance, drama, intrigue and adventure.
Season 2 reunites the Buccaneers Kristine Frøseth as Nan St. George, Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why) as Conchita Closson, Aubri Ibrag (Dive Club) as Lizzy Elmsworth, Josie Totah (Saved by the Bell) as Mabel Elmsworth and Imogen Waterhouse (The Outpost) as Jinny St. George. Christina Hendricks is also back as Mrs. St. George, with Mia Threapleton (The Phoenician Scheme) as Honoria Marable.
The ensemble cast also includes Guy Remmers as Theo, Duke of Tintagel, Matthew Broome (My Fault: London) as Guy Thwarte, Josh Dylan (The End of the F***ing World) as Lord Richard Marable, and Barney Fishwick (House of the Dragon) as Lord James Seadown, and welcomes new series stars Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) as Nell, Greg Wise (Sense and Sensibility) as Reede Robinson, Jacob Ifan (Rogue Heroes) as Hector Robinson, Grace Ambrose (Il paradiso delle signore) as Paloma Ballardino, and Maria Almeida (The Strays) as Cora Merrigan.
In the first season of The Buccaneers, a group of fun-loving young American girls exploded into the tightly corseted London of the 1870s kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash, and it ended with Nan making the decision to marry Theo.

On getting to return to play Nan, Kristine says, “It was very much up to the creators and how they wanted to have [Nan] grow. That’s the journey they created for her and I just kind of went along with that and learned new things about her, but there were definitely a lot of things from season one [I brought]. I think her core kind of comes back at the end of season two of who she was in season one. So there’s growth and familiarity.”
“That’s what I love about TV is that you’ll never fully know your character until the next script because they are hopefully evolving and changing and that’s exciting as an actor,” Christina adds.
