We were joined on the Popternative show by Josie Totah and Mia Threapleton who star in the Apple TV+ period drama series, The Buccaneers which premiered November 8th on the streaming platform. Inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton’s final novel of the same title, the series follows a group of young American girls in the 1870s who head to London to find themselves matches. What ensues is a culture clash and it soon becomes apparent that the girls are focused on much more than simply finding husbands.
The Buccaneers also stars Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse, Christina Hendricks, Josh Dylan, Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, and Barney Fishwick. Led by an all-female creative team, the series is written by series creator Katherine Jakeways (Tracey Ullman’s Show,The Armstrong and Miller Show) and directed by BAFTA Award winner Susanna White (Andor, Nanny McPhee Returns) who also serve as executive producers, alongside BAFTA Award nominee Beth Willis.

Mia Threapleton plays Honoria Marable, the younger sister of Lord Richard Marable (Josh Dylan) and Lord James Seadown (Barney Fishwick), and sister in-law to Conchita (Alisha Boe). Honoria is reserved at first with the arrival of Nan (Kristine Frøseth) and her friends which include Nan’s sister Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse), Lizzy Elmsworth (Aubri Ibrag), and Lizzy’s sister, Mabel (Josie Totah). Soon, Honoria and Mabel begin to get closer, and an unexpected romance forms between them.
In our interview, we asked Josie and Mia which scenes between Honoria and Mable were their favorite to film. They both came up with different answers and explained some the behind-the-scenes moments on set. Watch the conversation with Josie and Mia below.
