The highly anticipated fifth and final season of The Boys is nealry here. Season 5 will premiere on April 8 on Prime Video with the first two episodes. We were joined on the Popternative show by cast members Antony Starr (Homelander), Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett), and Susan Heyward (Sister Sage) to discuss filming the final season and reflecting on the series as a whole.
In Season 5, the world revolves around Homelander, shaped entirely by his unpredictable impulses. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a camp, and Annie tries to resis against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found, and Butcher reappears ready to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map. By doing so, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it.
Also returning for the final season are Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro, Laz Alonso Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir II, Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Joe Kessler, Valorie Curry as Firecracker, and Cameron Crovetti as Ryan Butcher.
“It’s interesting because [there is the plot], but there’s usually one sort of apex moment that I find is the inflection point for the season. I can’t really speak to that properly [for] season five, because I think there’s more than one,” Starr says on the maginitude of the final season.
When asked what keeps viewers hooked, Heyward says, “[The show] has been unpredictable. They have managed to stay consistently unpredictable for years on end. There’s no rules. There’s nothing to hold back. And I’m surprised as a collaborator [as I am] as an audience member.”
