We were joined on the Popternative show by hris Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, The IT Crowd) and Josh Segarra (Scream VI, Arrow) to discuss the new season of Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed The Big Door Prize. Season 2 premiered today, April 24th, with the first 3 episodes and new episodes will premiere every Wednesday. The cast also includes Gabrielle Dennis (The Upshaws, A Black Lady Sketch Show), Ally Maki (Wrecked, Cloak & Dagger), Damon Gupton (Black Lightning, Bates Motel), Crystal Fox (Big Little Lies, The Haves and the Have Nots), Sammy Fourlas, and Djouliet Amara (Fitting In, Devil in Ohio).

Based on M.O. Walsh’s novel, season 2 of The Big Door Prize follows the residents of Deerfield as the Morpho machine prepares them them for the mysterious “next stage.” As everyone’s potentials are exchanged for visions, new relationships form and new questions are asked. Dusty and Cass decide to take time apart while Trina (Amara) and Jacob (Fourlas) learn that they can shed their old labels. Giorgio and Izzy each find romance while Hana and Father Reuben attempt to discover the purpose of the machine. The small town is once again left questioning what they thought they knew about their lives, relationships, potentials, and about the Morpho itself.

“It’s been fun watching him evolve into somebody who, when we meet him feels very contented, and watching that fade away and now we’re seeing the consequences of that mind set change. And season 2 plays that out where the seeds that have been planted after the Morpho machine are now sprouting,” Chris O’Dowd says of what to expect from Dusty this season.

On how his character reads in the scripts, Josh Segarra says, “[Giorgio] reads one way, especially when I first read him, which was us at his birthday dinner, in that scene I poke a little fun and you can read it as his being mean, but I didn’t read it that way, I thought it meant that he’s comfortable enough to play a bit.”
