Vertical today revealed a teaser trailer for the upcoming comedy film Poolman starring and directed by Chris Pine (Star Trek). Pine co-wrote the film with Ian Gotler (Doula) which will be released in theaters May 10th, 2024.
Poolman also stars Annette Bening (Nyad), DeWanda Wise (Imaginary), Stephen Tobolowsky (Groundhog Day), Clancy Brown (John Wick: Chapter 4), John Ortiz (American Fiction), Ray Wise (Fresh Off the Boat), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fargo), and Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
The logline reads: “Poolman tells the story of Darren Barrenman (Chris Pine), a native Los Angeleno who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block and fighting to make his hometown a better place to live. When he is tasked by a femme fatale to uncover the truth behind a shady business deal, Darren enlists the help of his friends to take on a corrupt politician and a greedy land developer. His investigation reveals a hidden truth about his beloved city and himself.”
Getting to make Poolman was a dream. The artists with whom I collaborated, both in front of and behind the camera, were even dreamier, and shooting in my hometown (On film! Go Kodak!) was the dreamiest. It centers on a pool man named Darren Barrenman, an earnest and concerned, albeit emotionally stunted, citizen who, in his quest to solve a crime, ends up solving the mystery of who he is alongside a wild and misfit group of friends. I hope people can see a bit of themselves in DB. We at Team Poolman hope that our story makes people smile and feel just a little bit lighter in their hearts after leaving the theatre.
