We were joined on the Popternative show by Sweet Magnolias creator and showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson to discuss season 4 of the Netflix series. Season 4 premiered on February 6 and brings viewers back to the charming town of Serenity as friends Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue as they celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Season 4’s cast includes JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley, Logan Allen, Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Dion Johnstone, Brandon Quinn, Jamie Lynn Spears, Chris Medlin, and Justin Bruening.
“As we get deeper in the season, the writers have a greater awareness of how ridiculously talented our cast is,” Sheryl says when explaining the process of putting the storylines together for each episode.
“[There are] people searching for what they are meant to do, who they are meant to be, in a lot of different ways. You can’t do that alone,” Sheryl says is one of the key messages of the series. She also adds, “We see Sweet Magnolias as a community that shows you you are not alone. We want the audience to understand you’re not alone. There’s somebody in our show who is going through what you are going through.”
