We were joined on the Popternative show by Jamie Lynn Spears to discuss season 4 of the Netflix drama series, Sweet Magnolias, which premiered with all ten episodes on Thursday, February 6.
Season 4’s key cast also includes JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley, Logan Allen, Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Dion Johnstone, Brandon Quinn, Chris Medlin, and Justin Bruening.
The new season takes audiences from Halloween to Christmas in the charming town of Serenity as Maddie (Swisher), Dana Sue (Elliott), and Helen (Headley) face the twists and turns of their romantic lives as well as their family lives at home. Spears reprises her role of Noreen Fitzgibbons who has been through a lot since we met her in the first season of the series.

On the drama, twists, and turns you can expect this season, Spears says, “I feel like every episode is a cliffhanger in this season, I’m going to be honest, you’re like holding your breath the first six episodes, and then it feels like it kind of mellows out. But that’s life, you know sometimes you end up in spaces where you don’t know what’s next, and you have to wait and see how it all plays out. And it makes for good TV.”
She also tells us what she thinks makes the series such a hit: “There’s such a big cast. Someone in the audience can identify with something that one of these characters are going through. [All the characters] are from different walks of life, all different ages, which I think is really cool. I love the fact that it’s not just a teenage show, it’s not just a parents show. There are these two storylines going on between the parents and the kids, and I think in life that’s true. It’s not like the kids are the center stage or the parents are center stage, you’re simultaneously living through this life together and I love that we get to see that and see them collide at times.”
