Netflix today announced that Sophie Nélisse (Heated Rivalry, Yellowjackets) will star in their adaptation of Canadian author Carley Fortune’s 2024 bestselling romance novel This Summer Will Be Different. Fortune’s debut novel, Every Summer After, was recently adapted into the Prime Video series Every Year After, which premiered in June.
Production for This Summer Will Be Different will start later this summer in Prince Edward Island and Toronto. The logline reads, “This Summer Will Be Different, based on the beloved novel by Carley Fortune, is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.”
This Summer Will Be Different comes from creators and showrunners Dane Clark (Mr D, Suze) and Linsey Stewart (Workin’ Moms, North of North). Clark, Stewart, and Fortune serve as executive producers alongside Jennifer Kawaja (Sort Of, Wayward) and Elise Cousineau (Cardinal, Small Achievable Goals) for Sphere Media.
