The highly anticipated Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) film based on the iconic tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, premiered on Friday, March 31st in theaters and garnered $15.3 million in its opening day. Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Game Night), the action packed fantasy film has an impressive cast starring Chris Pine (Don’t Worry Darling, Star Trek), Michelle Rodriguez (The Fast and the Furious franchise), Regé-Jean Page (The Gray Man, Bridgerton), Justice Smith (The Voyeurs, Detective Pikachu), Sophia Lillis (I Am Not Okay With This, IT), Hugh Grant (The Undoing, Notting Hill), Chloe Coleman (Avatar: The Way of Water, Big Little Lies), and Daisy Head (Shadow and Bone, The Sandman).
Sophia Lillis recently joined us back on the Popternative show to discuss playing Doric in the box office hit. In the interview, Sophia revealed that the cast actually played a round of D&D in their very own movie characters as a way to get to know each other:
“I remember the first day we got together, we did like a first session of D&D together to really get to know our characters and to get to know each other. And it was a really good icebreaker I think because we got to play as our characters. It was set kind of after everything happened in the first movie, just to kind of see how it goes […] and it ended up being a lot of fun. I was a little worried because it’s kind of difficult when we shot it was during covid, so it’s going to be a little more difficult to hang out on the weekends.”
