We were joined on the Popternative show by Agustín Della Corte who can be seeing portraying Antonio “Tintín” Vizintín in the survival thriller Society of the Snow. Premiering on Netflix January 4th and based on the book of the same title by Pablo Vierci, the film tells the true story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile in 1972 that crashes on a glacier in the heart of the Andes Mountains.
Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident, leaving them trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, resulting in having to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. Directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage), Society of the Snow is Spain’s official selection for best international feature at the 2024 Oscars and received a 2024 Golden Globes nomination for best non-English language film.
In our interview, Agustín discusses his time playing professional rugby until the end of 2020 and transitioning to acting: “I decided to continue my career as an amateur in my [rugby] club and acting was something I was [always] attracted to. I found that acting had a lot in common with sports and I tried to think about it that way; being focused on what is happening, being present, trying to connect and communication with my partners. I tried to use that in my favor.”
He also talks about working with director J.A. Bayona: “You could feel all the time that he had it really clear in his mind how he wanted this story to be told. He was [always] trying to communicate this with us [and] he really pays attention to details. He was also very open to actors’ proposals and letting actors [make] decisions on scenes as a team. I think he really knows how to be a team. He might be my best coach.”
