Fans have been waiting for a year and a half for a new season of Sex Education – Netflix‘s hit teen British comedy-drama series. Today, September 17th, all 8 episodes of the third season are finally here. The series follows Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), a socially awkward teenager who lives with his sex therapist mother, Jean (Gillian Anderson). In season 2, we saw Otis and Maeve’s (Emma Mackey) relationship become strained. Moordale Secondary experienced a Chlamydia outbreak, highlighting the need for better sex education at the school. Season 2 also ended with Jean finding out she is pregnant with Jakob’s (Mikael Persbrandt) child.

Season 3 synopsis via Netflix
It’s a new year, Otis is having casual sex, Eric and Adam are official, and Jean has a baby on the way. Meanwhile, new headteacher Hope tries to return Moordale to a pillar of excellence, Aimee discovers feminism, Jackson gets a crush and a lost voicemail still looms. Prepare for commitment animals, alien phenomena, vulva cupcakes and much more of Madam Groff.
New Characters
We are introduced to a few new characters this season to shake things up.
Peter Groff
Mr. Groff (Alistair Petrie) ended on a low note in season 2, and season 3 sees him moving in with his brother Peter played by Jason Isaacs. Isaacs has been in some major films, including the Harry Potter films as Lucius Malfoy, The Patriot, and Black Hawk Down. Isaacs only appears in 3 episodes which was disappointing as he played the role of a mean older brother phenomenally.

Headmaster Hope
A new headmaster joins Mooredale who looks to change things at the school, including a dress code, in order to gain a better reputation after being deemed the “Sex School.” Hope is played by British actress Jemima Kirke who many might recognize from the HBO hit series Girls (2012-2017) where she played Jessa.

Cal Bowman
Non-binary student Cal (Dua Saleh) is new to the school, and is an American who recently moved to the UK. Cal soon becomes close with Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling), but the closeness becomes complex for Jackson.

Overall, Sex Education season 3 is another fun ride that certainly leaves the door open for a 4th season. It followed the same formula we’ve seen in seasons 1 and 2, and touched on even more topics that are important to talk and think about.
