We were joined on the Popternative show by Scott MacArthur (Killing It) who stars in the new Netflix sports comedy series, Running Point, written and executive produced by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen (The Mindy Project). The 10-episode first season debuted on February 27.
Scott stars alongside Kate Hudson (Glass Onion), Brenda Song (The Last Showgirl), Drew Tarver (The Other Two), Fabrizio Guido (Mr. Iglesias), Toby Sandeman (The Game), Chet Hanks (Your Honor), and Jay Ellis (Insecure). The ensemble cast also includes Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), Max Greenfield (New Girl), Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Roberto Sanchez (Dexter: Original Sin), Uche Agada (Rise), and Dane DiLiegro (Imaginary).
When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job. Scott plays Ness Gordon, one of Isla’s brothers and the general manager of the Waves.
Running Point manages to blend many themes together with a good balance of sports scenes, comedy, and drama. “The first question I had was ‘how are we going to pull off these basketball scenes?’ ‘How much are we going to get in to the actual nuts and bolts of running a basketball team?’ And I think as the show kind of unfolds there’s an incredible balance of that. We have storylines about the locker room and the dynamic of the locker room, but kind of the overall drive is this family, the relationship between these siblings,” Scott says.
