The action thriller 5lbs of Pressure follows ex-con Adam (Luke Evans) acclimating himself back into society after serving 16 years for murder. Rory Culkin, who also appears in the Phil Allocco written and directed film as Mike, is a complex character with scenes tied to Evans and Alex Pettyfer.
When speaking to Popternative, Rory shared how the journey with his character was made up with little details. He said, “I kind of see it as one journey. Meeting with Phil [Allocco], the director, in Brooklyn and talking about the character, and I try to just keep that in the back of my mind and then getting on the set and then putting on the wardrobe. The silly leather hat and the leather trench coat. It just sort of all starts to add up and you just sort of build this character together.”
“I think the small details matter. I would do these little things you probably don’t even notice it, but his hands are all taped up. He’s got Band-aids all over his hands and I was trying to show that this guy is taped together. He’s just barely hanging on and also he makes bad decisions, so right when you see him his hands are all messed up and it’s like ‘oh he scraped his hand he probably just made the wrong turn,’ and get ready because you’re going to see this guy make the wrong turn at every step of the way, so you just start to add these details and you flush out a solid character hopefully,” Rory adds.
