We were joined on the Popternative show by Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding, The Mandalorian) and Riki Lindhome (Wednesday, The Last House on the Left) who star in the horror comedy, Queens of the Dead, now playing in theaters.
From director Tina Romero, daughter of filmmaker George A. Romero who helmed the Living Dead films, Queens of the Dead is set during a zombie apocalypse break out at a party with a group of drag queens and club kids. They must all must put aside their drama and use their unique skills to fight against the brain-thirsty zombies.
The cast also includes Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Tomás Matos (Fire Island, Fantasmas), Nina West (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, RuPaul’s Drag Race), Quincy Dunn-Baker (A House of Dynamite, No Hard Feelings), Jack Haven (I Saw the TV Glow, After this Death), Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story, Call Me Kat), Dominique Jackson (Pose, Chick Fight), Margaret Cho (Dying for Sex, Fire Island), Eve Lindley (Bros, Dispatches from Elsewhere), Becca Blackwell (Survival of the Thickest, Bros), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Washington Black, The Resident), and Julie J.
On what made Katy want to be part of this project, she says, “[Tina] sent me the breakdown and showed me what it was going to visually look like, and I was like, ‘okay, this is going to be a really cool, unique project.”
Riki’s character didn’t bring her to the club, so seeing the final product was important as she tells us, “I didn’t really get to see everything [on set] because most of my scenes were in a hospital, a car and then outside. So, I was never actually in the club. I just got to set and immediately started filming in a different world. So I was surprised when I saw the movie. It was a delight to see [all the set designs and costumes].”
