We caught up with twins Elizabeth and Emily Hinkler who co-star in the highly anticipated film Good Burger 2, the movie sequel to the iconic 90s film based on the sketch from the Nickelodeon comedy series All That. It premiered today on Paramount+ and follows Dexter Reed (Kenan Thompson) and original cashier Ed (Kel Mitchell) reuniting in the present day as Dexter is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk.
Elizabeth and Emily play new Good Burger employees Cindy and Mindy. Good Burger 2 also stars Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Jillian Bell (Murder Mystery 2), Kamaia Fairburn (Blockbuster), Alex R. Hibbert (The Chi), Fabrizio Guido (Perry Mason), and Anabel Graetz (Free Guy). It also features original Good Burger cast members reprising their roles including Josh Server, as Fizz, Lori Beth Denberg as Connie Muldoon, and Carmen Electra as Roxanne.

We asked Elizabeth and Emily about joining the Good Burger 2 cast, filming their scenes with Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, some of their on set memories, and more.
Check out our conversation below.
How excited are you both for Good Burger 2 to be released?
Elizabeth & Emily Hinkler (EH & EH): We both are the most excited! This movie is such a special one. It is so rare to be part of something that people have loved for 25 years. When we were filming, there were fans watching across the street from the Good Burger at all times of the day just screaming between takes. It was like theatre, just pure magic. And watching the film at the premiere, so many fans came up to us and shared what watching this meant for them. It reminded them of their childhoods in a way that made us lost for words. Kel and lots of fans were crying. We never knew how powerful nostalgia was until this.
What can you tell us about your characters?
EH & EH: We play Cindy and Mindy, 16 year old cooks at the Good Burger Restaurant! Cindy and Mindy confuse Ed a lot, almost always talk at the same time, and are part of the new generation of the Good Burger Crew. They are always ready to cook up some fun! That’s about as much as we can say, but if you watch… you’ll definitely find out a surprise!
What was it like filming your scenes with Kenan and Kel?
EH & EH It was a dream filming with Kenan and Kel. We actually cried meeting Kel, because Ed already felt like our friend. We met Kenan later on and became instant pals. One of our most favorite memories was filming at the roller rink, and Kenan grabbed our hands and flew us across the floor faster than we’ve ever roller skated! We’ve never laughed and hugged so much on set. It’s kinda like they are twins, since their connection runs so deep and they play so well off of one another. Just a dream!

Can you share some fun on set moments with us?
EH & EH: Oh goodness we had so many, every single day, all the time! But probably one of our most favorite moments was late at night when we were all filming leaving the Good Burger. (It was cut from the final edit). Kel was sitting on the counter pounding out a beat, and we all started dancing, then Alex Hibbert, who plays Ed 2, started rapping about burgers! It was such a memorable moment, and was the turning point of us becoming lifelong friends. Even after that, after we filmed the take and our AD [assistant director] Ross yelled “cut!” the biggest crowd of fans outside started screaming, and Kenan started a chant for Ed! It was our first connection with how impactful this movie has been for so many people, both young and not as young. Those moments are a treasure.

What do you love the most about storytelling?
EH & EH: For us, it’s all about the characters. If we can feel their heart and mind, even if we don’t agree with their choices or actions, we understand them. And honestly, that’s all we are looking for in the world: more understanding and compassion between one another, even if we don’t come from the same background. Ed and Dex are perfect examples of that; even though Ed isn’t the brightest bulb, he has the biggest heart, and every “mistake” is a spark of joy for him. Same for Dex; even though he’s made a lot of mistakes to other people in the past, we still understand where he’s coming from, the love he feels for his family, and we root for him. We’ve all been there too.
When people watch Good Burger 2, what are you hoping they get out of it?
EH & EH: Well, for those who are already part of the Good Burger fandom, we hope they feel that deep sense of nostalgia we were talking about earlier. It really can heal the soul, and we’ve witnessed that firsthand from so many already. As for those who are new to the Good Burger joint, we are hoping they have as much fun as we all did making it! It feels rare to be part of such a fun project where every day we laughed so hard we snorted like pigs, ate great tasting good burgers – with real Ed sauce! – and enjoyed every second being with hilarious, heartfelt, incredible human beings. As Ed says, “it’s a great day to have a good day!”
