We spoke with actress Amelie Anstett about her latest leading role in Lifetime’s new thriller, Dying For Fame, which recently premiered on January 4th. The film follows a career-driven internet tabloid reporter, Anna, played by Dylan Raine, who is writing a profile about popular influencer Juliet, played by Amelie. Circumstances soon end up taking a turn for the worse when Juliet’s life-altering secret is discovered by Anna. Amelie is best known for her lead role in Brat TV’s Chicken Girls, but actually began her performance career at a young age as a dancer on Justin Bieber’s Purpose Tour.
We asked Amelie about her journey into acting, her role in Dying For Fame, and more. Check out our conversation below.
When did you decide that storytelling and acting was something you wanted to do?
Amelie Anstett (AA): As a dancer, performing has been my biggest passion, and with that, I found a love for entertaining people, whether that means making them smile or making them feel something even deeper through movement. I didn’t start to pursue acting till way later in my career, but it has been such a joy to tap into these different characters and tell their stories. I have now developed a huge passion for acting as well and feel so grateful.
What can you tell us about working on Dying For Fame?
AA: Getting to work on this project was such a joy, we had many night shoots which I had never done before, so that was cool and different. While most of the city was asleep, we were making a movie, and that was music to my ears, hehe. There were so many action levels to this movie as well, which added to the plot. It is a fun one, and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it.
What can you tell us about your character?
AA: Juliet was a very beautiful character to portray. We had many similarities and many differences. However, I felt connected to her level of compassion and love for others. She truly wanted the best for everyone and that trait is something I carry with me every day. Supporting each other is something we need more of. We all need to realize that not everything in life is a competition.
What has been the best advice someone has ever given you about acting and storytelling?
AA: I feel some of the best advice I have received is to focus on yourself, and not on what others are doing. This tip is a hard one, but one thing I say is always support your friends and what they are doing. But at the same time, don’t get stuck on what your peers are doing, focus on what is going to benefit you and can help you reach your biggest goals. The more everyone focuses on their goals, we can find so much happiness supporting each other. Everyone deserves to accomplish their dreams, so being able to be there for your friends is such a beautiful thing.
When people watch Dying For Fame, what are you hoping they get out of it?
AA: I am so excited for everyone to watch Dying For Fame. I hope that when they tune in they reevaluate the idea of not judging a book by its cover. Most individuals are so quick to judge, especially through social media, when at the end of the day, social media are just a highlight reel and that person behind the screen might be going through a lot more than they show. A great example of this is Juliet. Everyone thinks she is a pampered, snobby social media influencer but in reality, she is a sweet girl who never really wanted to do any of it, but her sister made her.
