James Norton (Happy Valley, Joy) is returning to the TV screen in an upcoming limited ITV series, Playing Nice. Based on the bestselling novel by JP Delaney, the 4-part series will debut on ITV1 in the UK on Sunday January, 5th 2025 at 9pm, with subsequent episodes airing on Monday and Sunday in the same timeslot. The series will also be available on ITVX, STV and STV Player. Playing Nice will be distributed globally by StudioCanal, but has no date set yet for an international debut.

The synopsis reads, “Set against a sweeping Cornish landscape, two couples discover their toddlers were switched at birth in a hospital mix-up, and face a horrifying dilemma: do they keep the sons they have raised and loved, or reclaim their biological child? Living a waking nightmare, Pete and Maddie are jettisoned into the world of the other couple; Miles and Lucy. At first it seems all four are agreed on a solution, but it soon becomes clear that hidden motives are at play. How far can each couple trust the real parents of their child – or even each other? As Pete and Maddie are stretched to breaking point, they realise they will stop at nothing to keep their family together. “

The cast also includes Niamh Algar (Raised by Wolves, Mary & George), James McArdle (Sexy Beast, Mare of Easttown), and Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey, Harlots). Kate Hewitt (One Day, Life) directed all the episodes.
