The end of the Pogues’ journey is almost here. Netflix today dropped the official trailer for the fifth and final season of Outer Banks giving us a look at the series’ conclusion ahead of its August 20 premiere.
When we last left the Pogues, tragedy struck with a shocking Season 4 finale. Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) murder his own son, JJ (Rudy Pankow), in front of Kiara (Madison Bailey). Now, the Pogues set out on one final adventure: justice for their friend while facing their biggest challenge yet.
Returning cast for Season 5 are Chase Stokes as John B., Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Carlacia Grant as Cleo, Drew Starkey as Rafe, Austin North as Topper, Fiona Palomo as Sofia, J. Anthony Crane as Chandler Groff, and Cullen Moss as Shoupe.
The synopsis for Season 5 of Outer Banks reads, “Season 5 finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good. Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.”
“In Season 5, we see the most hesitation from John B, not just because of JJ’s death. He’s accepting the fact that he is a soon-to-be father and that he has responsibilities. The 16-year-old who was lying to DCS about staying with his uncle is now starting to really realize the ramifications and the repercussions of his actions,” Stokes tells Tudum.
Alongside the trailer, Netflix also announced the Pogues for Life: A Fan Farewell Event on August 15 with the cast in Los Angeles. The event will also include the inaugural Pogue Awards, the first fan-voted awards show dedicated to Outer Banks. Honoring the most memorable moments from all five seasons, the event will give fans the chance to choose the winners across a range of categories inspired by the series’ biggest highlights. Voting opens August 6 on Tudum.com. The event will end with an advance screening of the first episode of the final season.
The event will also feature on-stage interviews with cast Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant and Drew Starkey.
