Based on the wildly popular hockey romance book series by Elle Kennedy, Off Campus has officially made its way to Prime Video as a TV adaptation. The hype surrounding the series was so strong that ahead of its premiere on May 13, the show had already been renewed for a second season. Off Campus centers on an elite college hockey team and the women connected to them as they navigate relationships, personal growth, and self-discovery. We were joined on the Popternative show by Khobe Clarke, who plays Beau Maxwell, a fan-favorite character who also appears in the book series.
Khobe wasn’t fully aware of just how massive the fandom was before landing the role: “I think none of us knew how popular these books were prior to [auditioning]. I had no idea really until it was announced [that I was playing Beau]. Then you get the love flood, maybe that’s what I’ll call it, from people [sharing] the love [they] have for these characters in the books.”
Beau is the best friend of Dean Di Laurentis, played by Stephen Kalyn, and their friendship plays an important role throughout the series, something fans are especially interested in seeing develop further in season two. When discussing preparing for his scenes with Stephen, Khobe shares that it wasn’t difficult at all to portray close friends on-camera:
“[We didn’t] talk about Beau and Dean’s [friendship] specifically, but we were friends prior to doing the show. I admire Stephen a lot. So just being his friend and having fun [was the goal]. The main focus for him and I was to have fun and I didn’t feel like we struggled with that.”
