We were joined back on the Popternative show by Anna Lambe (True Detective: Night Country) who stars in Netflix‘s first Canadian original series, North of North, which debuted globally on April 10.
Filmed in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and Toronto, the Arctic comedy series follows Siaja (Lambe) who wants to build a new life for herself after a very public end to her marriage in a small town where everybody knows everyone’s business.
The cast also includes Maika Harper (Mohawk Girls), Braeden Clarke (Skymed), Jay Ryan (Mary Kills People), Mary Lynn Rajskub (24), Kelly William (Motherland: Fort Salem), Zorga Qaunaq, Bailey Poching (Kid Sister), Nutaaq Doreen Simmonds (True Detective: Night Country), Keira Belle Cooper, and Tanya Tagaq (True Detective: Night Country).

On what getting to play Siaja means to her, Lambe says, “I was auditioning for this show for four months, and I was so deeply invested, I wish I was exaggerating when I said I was crying about it probably everyday because I wanted it so bad.”
While North of North is a comedy, it also blends important themes as Lambe explains, “It’s such a privilege as an actor when you get a role like this. There’s so much [going on] through intergenerational trauma, a complicated relationship with her mother, and an unsatisfying marriage, that she’s like ‘I just don’t know what I want, I just know it’s not this.’ Going through the experience with [Siaja] was so much fun to play, and the really tender and heartbreaking moments were great to share with other cast members and to be able to play off each other in those moments.”
