It’s been (somewhat) long since fans have gotten more details about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, but a new trailer has given us much to uncover. The upcoming adaptation, following the story creator Scott Cawthon has set up, is already much bigger than the original game as it takes these iconic animatronics outdoors. Although, the latest trailer for the film finally confirms some important pieces of lore that fans have been theorizing about.

In the latest trailer, one scene sees Josh Hutcherson’s Michael meeting with Skeet Ulrich’s unnamed character, who’s telling Michael about William Afton’s murderous activities. During this scene, Ulrich’s character mentions how, after the Missing Children’s Incident, he has a strong belief that William killed his daughter, Charlie.

In a flashback during this conversation, what could be the spirit of a child is seen screaming to a group having a birthday, carrying another child in their arms. This child has black-and-white striped sleeves, representative of the Puppet’s design. This scene is extremely integral to the Five Nights at Freddy’s lore because it finally confirms a highly anticipated casting. This confirms that Skeet Ulrich will be playing Henry Emily, a previous co-owner of Fazbear Entertainment and William Afton’s business partner.

In the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, Henry Emily helped Afton construct the original animatronics of a pizzeria before Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, that being Fredbear’s Family Diner. However, Henry’s daughter, Charlie, was killed outside of the establishment by William, leading to the pizzeria’s Puppet animatronic to protect her in the end.

Years after, Henry struggled to move on from his daughter’s death and learned about Wiliam’s actions privately as well as how his victims haunted the animatronics. This led him to concoct his own plan to not only stop William’s activities permanently, but also put the victims’ spirit to rest. All of this was revealed in Cawthon’s secretive game, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator.

From this trailer, it does appear that Henry is indeed going through the motions with Charlie’s death, but is still struggling to do something about it. In fact, Henry is placing the responsibilities of fighting against William onto Michael’s shoulders, who did confront him previously in the first film.

While fans can hope for Henry and William confronting each other, director Emma Tammi hinted that both characters may see more action in the future at New York Comic Con 2025. Though, at this time, Tammi stated that they’ll unlikely be together that often in the upcoming movie.

Furthermore, it appears that there will also be more insight into how Charlie, aka the Puppet, will bring life to the animatronics, which was seen in the flashback. Given how all of the animatronics are acting against Michael, Elizabeth, and Abby, it’s likely that Charlie will be key to figuring out the failsafe that “heals” the lost souls.

This latest trailer also highlights one of the biggest elements that many Five Nights at Freddy’s fans have also wondered about: what’s in the box from Five Nights at Fredy’s 4?

For those unfamiliar, this box proved to be one of the biggest mysteries in the fandom as its contents have pretty much gone undiscovered for years. However, this latest trailer might have hinted at what’s inside it thanks to Elizabeth’s uncovering. The trailer saw Elizabeth finding this box in a closet in the Afton family household, which was also teased in the trailer.

From how the trailer presents it, it’s revealed that the box contains items previously owned by the missing children, which could be anchors that connect the spirits to these animatronics. Although, in the games, the souls of William’s victims are bonded to the animatronics in a different way that could be integrated later on.

As for how Abby plays into the plot of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, it can be assumed that Charlie wants Abby’s help, but is deterred by Elizabeth due to her familial connection to William. Though, much like the confirmation of Henry and William fighting each other, Tammi also kept Charlie’s involvement under wraps during New York Comic Con 2025.

Nonetheless, there’s much to anticipate in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and how it ties Cawthon’s story with original elements. The sequel already has an incredible amount of excitement behind it, so it depends on when the third film ultimately gets confirmed.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 releases in theaters on December 5, 2025.
