Disney+ today released a new teaser for the upcoming original series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which will premiere on December 20th on the streaming platform with 2 episodes followed by new episodes weekly. Based on Disney Hyperion’s best-selling book series by award-winning author Rick Riordan, the series “tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god, Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.”
Percy Jackson and the Olympians series stars Walker Scobell (The Adam Project), Leah Sava Jeffries (Beast), Aryan Simhadri (Spin), and features notable guest stars Lin-Manuel Miranda (The Little Mermaid), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Toby Stephens (Black Sails), Virginia Kull (Big Little Lies), Jason Mantzoukas (HouseBroken), Jay Duplass (The Chair), Glynn Turman (Fargo), the late Lance Reddick (John Wick), Adam Copeland (Vikings), Charlie Bushnell (Diary of a Future President), Dior Goodjohn (Head of the Class), Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash), Olivea Morton (Angel), Suzanne Cryer (Silicon Valley), Timm Sharp (On The Verge), and Timothy Omundson (Starship Troopers).
Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan worked closely with the creative team and showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz (The Old Man, Black Sails, Jericho) to bring his books to life and deliver a series that stays true to his vision for these heroic characters that millions of book fans know and love. The first 2 episodes are written by Riordan and Steinberg and directed by James Bobin (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Flight of the Conchords).
