It was previously announced that The Bear star Jeremy Allen White would star in the Netflix limited series Enigma Variations based on André Aciman’s 2017 book (author of Call Me By Your Name). Today, Netflix revealed that Aaron-Taylor Johnson (Nosferatu, 28 Years Later) will instead lead the series.
Per Netflix, the series will tell “the story of a man remade by the lovers who ignite and undo him over the course of ten transformative years. It’s an intimate yet sweeping portrait of masculinity, sexuality, and modern love — and in a world of endless choices, it asks the question: will we know when we’ve found the one? If you enjoyed the sweaty, poignant, and lust-filled world of Call Me by Your Name, this one’s for you. Another of André Aciman’s bestselling booksis being adapted for the screen — and it’s just as seductive as its predecessor.”
Enigmna Variations will be executive produced and written by A.K. Shuman (The Wheel of Time, The Blacklist), and directed by Oliver Hermanus (The History of Sound, Living). Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer (Pachinko, The Morning Show) also executive produce for Media Res, as well as André Aciman and Monica Levinson (Love Story, Say Nothing).
