Netflix just dropped a first look at their upcoming adaptaion of Little House on the Prairie, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic book series, which were based on her own experiences growing up in the 1800s American West. Set to premiere on July 9, 2026, Netflix also announced an early Season 2 renewal.
Penned during the Great Depression and originally released in the 1930s, Wilder’s books were later brought to life in the popular television series Little House on the Prairie, which aired for almost ten years spanning the 1970s and early 1980s. Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this new adaptation of the Little House books “offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
“I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive,” showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine tells Netflix. “We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”

Little House on the Prairie stars Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry) as Laura Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes (I, Object) as Laura’s older sister, Mary, Luke Bracey (Hacksaw Ridge) as Pa, Laura’s father, and Crosby Fitzgerald (Crime 101) as Ma, Laura’s mother.
