Ricky Gervais is returning to television with Alley Cats, a new adult animated comedy series set to premiere on Netflix on August 7. Created, written, and directed by the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning comedian behind The Office, Extras, and After Life, the series is a witty look at life through the eyes of a group of feral British cats navigating the everyday absurdities of the world around them. Gervais co-directed the series with Elliot Dear (Peter & the Wolf, Love, Death & Robots).
The voice cast is led by Gervais alongside several of his After Life costars including Tom Basden (The Ballad of Wallis Island, After Life), Andrew Brooke (The Agency, After Life), David Earl (Brian and Charles, After Life), Kerry Godliman (We Live in Time, After Life), Jo Hartley (After Life, Eddie the Eagle), Diane Morgan (Cunk on Earth, After Life), Natalie Cassidy (EastEnders Springleaf), and Tony Way (Dodger, After Life).
The official synopsis reads, “Alley Cats is an adult animated sitcom created by and starring the multi award-winning Ricky Gervais. The series follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats from all walks of society, who seek companionship while ruminating on everyday life. From the funny to the absurd, the series is packed with Gervais’ signature style of heart and social commentary that audiences have come to expect.”
Alley Cats features a 2D animation style from the award-winning UK studio Blink Industries (Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, Dead End: Paranormal Park).
