We were joined on the Popternative show by Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy), who stars in the new Hallmark+ series, Mistletoe Murders. If you are a fan of murder mysteries and Christmas, this is the show for you. It premiered on October 31 and also stars Peter Mooney (Rookie Blue), Sierra Marilyn Riley, Lara Amersey (Operation Nutcracker), Kylee Evans (Good Witch), Jean Yoon (Kim’s Convenience), and David Hewlett (Stargate: Atlantis).
Mistletoe Murders follows Emily Lane (Drew), the shop owner of a charming year-round Christmas-themed store, Under the Mistletoe. However, her inner voice reveals a sardonic sense of humor, cunning intellect, and keen eye for details most people would miss…because Emily has a big secret. Residing in the quaint tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, Emily finds herself compelled to investigate local murders. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective Sam Wilner (Mooney), a smart local cop – with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited – begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye.
On blending Christmas with murder mystery, Sarah says, “It makes it so much fun. When you think Christmas, you don’t think murder mystery. But when you think [about] Emily Lane, [and] who her voice-over is versus who she presents herself to be, there’s two sides. It’s almost like the genre is mirroring the main character. And we love mystery. People love mystery, people love Chrismtas. It’s a really fun mix.”
