MGM+ today announced that the thriller horror series The Institute, based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, has been renewed for an eight-episode second season. King shared the announcement on social media. The series premiered on July 13 and the season finale is set for August 24. The Institute ranks as the best premiere ever on MGM+.

Season 1 stars Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Joe Freeman, and an ensemble cast including Simone Miller (Run the Burbs), Fionn Laird (Under the Banner of Heaven), Jason Diaz (Vampire Academy), and Jane Luk (Streams Flow from a River). Casting for Season 2 will be announced at a later date. The Institute is directed and executive produced by Jack Bender (Game of Thrones, From) and writen and executive produced by Benjamin Cavell (JustifiedThe Stand).
