Netflix today announced that Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Mary Steenburgen (Book Club, Melvin and Howard) has joined Season 2 of the critically acclaimed comedy series A Man on the Inside, starring her real-life husband Ted Danson.

The series premiered in November 2024 and sees Ted Danson reunite with The Good Place creator Michael Schur. The series is based on the 2021 documentary The Mole Agent, an Oscar nominee for Best Documentary feature.

Danson plays a retired man who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a PI and becomes a mole in a secret investigation. Steenburgen will play Mona Margadoff, a former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve.

Season 1’s ensemble cast included Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Lilah Richcreek Estrada (Chicago Med), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Civil War), Sally Struthers (All in the Family), Margaret Avery (The Color Purple), John Getz (The Fly), Susan Ruttan (L.A. Law), Lori Tan Chinn (Orange Is the New Black), Clyde Kusatsu (Blue Eye Samurai), Marc Evan Jackson (The Good Place), Jama Williamson (Parks and Recreation), Wyatt Yang (Weekend in Taipei), Deuce Basco (Raya and the Last Dragon), Eugene Cordero (Loki), Lincoln Lambert (Nope), Kerry O’Malley (The Killer), Danielle Kennedy (Narcos), and Miles Fowler (Bottoms).

Season 1 of A Man on the Inside debuted atop Netflix’s most popular English TV List and remained in the Top 10 for five weeks. It was named one of AFI’s 2024 TV programs of the year and Ted Danson was nominated for a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance by an actor in a comedy series.
