One of the most heartbreaking episodes of HBO’s The Last of Us so far is episode 5 which aired on February 10th. Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) try and escape Kansas City QZ with Henry (Lamar Johnson) and his brother Sam (Keivonn Woodard). A resistance group led by Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey) is simultaneously trying to capture Henry as revenge for ratting out her brother to FEDRA. If you haven’t yet seen the episode, we won’t spoil anything for you but it would be hard to avoid knowing that the episode is extremely intense.
Lamar Johnson joined us on the Popternative show recently to discuss playing Henry, his audition process, and what he knew about his character from the games. While he knew he would be in the preview trailers for episode 5 once the series premiered, he had no idea he would be included in the official full trailer for The Last of Us which was released in Decemeber 2022.
“I remember doing ADR [automated dialogue replacement], and Craig [Mazin] was on the Zoom and Craig and I were just talking and he was like ‘yeah, the trailer should be coming out soon and also you will see yourself in the post-trailer for things to come,’ but I had no idea that I would be in the main official trailer and I was pleasantly surprised,” he explains.
