Netflix announced this week that Josh Hartnett (Fight or Flight, Trap) will star in an upcoming limited series (currently untitled) from creator Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy, 19-2), which will take place in Newfoundland, Canada, where it will also be filmed. No other casting have been announced yet.
According to Tudum, the synopsis reads, “When a mysterious sea creature terrorizes a remote Newfoundland town, a hard-bitten fisherman must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life.”
The series is written by Karen Walton (Orphan Black, Ginger Snaps), Perry Chafe (Saint Pierre, Republic of Doyle), and Natty Zavitz (Acquainted, Edging). Jamie Childs (The Sandman, His Dark Materials), Helen Shaver (The Penguin, Station Eleven), and Stephen Dunn (Closet Monster, Queer as Folk) will direct the episodes.
“Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich history and stunning landscapes make it the ideal canvas for a project of this magnitude,” Dr. Andrew Furey, premier of Newfoundland and Labrador told Tudum. “The province’s commitment to storytelling, talented crews, and unique beauty ensure that this series will capture the spirit of our province. We are excited to be part of bringing this incredible vision to the screen.”
“Jesse’s bold, ambitious vision offers thrills galore, with the heart of a family drama,” Netflix Canada content directors Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury added. “We can’t wait to transport our members to coastal Newfoundland with this timely story about community, resilience and adaptability.”
