Season 2 of Netflix’s Shadow & Bone, which premiered on March 16, is already dominating the Top 10 section on the streaming platform. Based on Leigh Bardugo’s worldwide bestselling fantasy novels, the series takes place in the fictional war-ridden land of Ravka filled with monsters and darkness. The series contains a plethora of characters but there was one in particular missing in the first season: Wylan. He is described as “a sensitive person who plays flute and likes to stay out of trouble, but he’s also a chemist who’s very good with explosives, and he shares some explosive chemistry with Jesper.” Jesper, played by Kit Young, who audiences were introduced to in season one, is a member of the gang known as The Crows. Fans were ecstatic to be able to see Jesper and Wylan’s romance blossom on screen in the new season. Wylan is played by Jack Wolfe who recently joined the Popternative show to discuss his new musical The Magic Flute as well as joining Shadow and Bone for season 2.

When asked about his audition process, Jack explained that he used the books’ description of Wylan as inspiration for his audition tapes:
“For me it was fast, it was fast and furious. I remember reading the description of this character and it contained some parts of the book and there was a description of Wylan in the books that Leigh Bardugo wrote which is ‘he seems like a silk-eared puppy in a room full of fighting dogs’ and I was like that’s such a great description of someone, and I took that into the tapes I shot and then two days after I had a chemistry read with Kit [Young] who plays Jesper. So it was wild, so fast, and then I just tried to sort of get my way through the books as fast as possible before we started shooting.”
