Indie-pop musicians and twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin have adapted their 2019 memoir High School into a television series on Amazon Freevee which premiered on October 14th. High School “is a story about finding your own identity—a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimics your own. Told through a backdrop of ‘90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaves between parallel and discordant memories of sisters growing up down the hall from one another.”
TikTok creators and TV newcomers Railey and Seazynn Gilliland are the series leads, portraying the high school versions of Tegan and Sara, respectively. Special guest stars Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) and Kyle Bornheimer (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) play the twins’ parents, Simone and Patrick.
The series is executive produced by Clea DuVall (Veep), Tegan and Sara Quin, Laura Kittrell (Insecure), and Plan B’s Dede Gardner (Moonlight), Jeremy Kleiner (The OA), and Carina Sposato (The Good Fight)
We were joined on the Popternative show by Tegan and Sara, Cobie Smulders and Kyle Bornheimer, where Tegan and Sara tell us about collaborating on this very personal project and the importance of depicting their journeys into self discovery. Cobie and Kyle discuss preparing for their roles in consultation with the Quin twins and what drew them to this series.

The first four episodes of High School are streaming on Amazon Freevee, with two new episodes available every Friday through October 28th.
