We were joined on the Popternative show by Benjamin Voisin (Summer of 85, Lost Illusions), Lyna Khoudri (Papicha, The French Dispatch), Alice Da Luz (Dancing the Twist in Bamako, Hanami) and Jérémie Renier (My Way, In Bruges) who star in the French-language historical drama series Carême. It debuted on Apple TV+ on April 30 with the first two episodes.

The series follows the thrilling story of the world’s first celebrity chef, Antonin Carême (Voisin), who rose from humble beginnings in Paris to the height of culinary stardom in Napoleon’s Europe. While he dreams only of becoming the most famous chef in the world, his talent and ambitions attract the attention of renowned and powerful politicians, who use him as a spy for France.

Created by Kelly and Davide Serino (The Bad Guy), the series is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Martin Bourboulon (Eiffel, Les Trois Mousquetaires: D’Artagnan), and based on the book Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême, the First Celebrity Chef by Ian Kelly.

The series offers a blend of drama, politics, culinary arts, romance, and espionage which makes for a fun watch. Watch the full interviews with the cast below.

A new episode of Carême drops Wednesdays through June 11 on Apple TV+.
