We were joined on the Popternative show by best-selling author Abigail Hing Wen and director Arvin Chen about the new YA film, Love in Taipei which recently premiered on Paramount+. The film is based on Abigail Hing Wen’s book, Loveboat, Taipei, and she also serves as executive producer.
Love In Taipei stars Ashley Liao (Physical, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) as Ever Wong, whose summer takes an unexpected turn when her parents surprise her with a trip to Taipei for a cultural immersion program. She quicky finds herself trying not to fall for two attractive, but wildly different boys who are vying for her attention, while at the same time finding the courage to defy her parents’ high expectations and pursue her true passion: dancing. It also stars Ross Butler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods, To All The Boys franchise), Nico Hiraga (Booksmart, Moxie), Chelsea Zhang (Daybreak, Titans), and Cindy Cheung (The Sinner, 13 Reasons Why).
In our interviews, Abigail discusses the process and excitement of turning her novel into a film, and Arvin tells us about what the conversations on set were like, his relationship with the original source material, and much more. Watch the conversations with Arvin Chen and Abigail Hing Wen below.
