We were joined on the Popternative show by the stars of the new Hulu/Disney+ superhero comedy series Extraordinary which premiered today with all 8 episodes. The series is led by a cast of rising UK talent, including Máiréad Tyers (Jen), Sofia Oxenham (Carrie), Bilal Hasna (Kash), and Luke Rollason (Jizzlord). Additional cast members include Siobhan McSweeney (Jen’s mum, Mary), Robbie Gee (Jen’s stepdad, Ian), Safia Oakley-Green (Jen’s half-sister, Andy), and Ned Porteous (Luke).
Written and created by Emma Moran, the series is set in a world where everyone develops some kind of power once they turn 18, but this isn’t the case for Jen who still remains powerless at age 25. This holds Jen back a lot as she is desperate to get her power. She is able to find comfort and support in her friends Carrie, Kash, and a cat turned human named Jizzlord.
In our interview, the cast talks about how the series does a great job of blending coming-of-age, comedy, and superhero culture into one, what viewers can expect from each of their characters, and much more.
