We were joined on the Popternative show by The Runarounds band members William Lipton, Axel EllisJeremy YunZendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher. Their new fictional drama series, The Runarounds, debuted on Prime Video on September 1 and follows the real-life band members as they graduate from Wilmington, North Carolina and come together during the summer to form a rock band and search for stardom.

From Outer Banks creator Jonas Pate, the eight-episode series features original music performed by the band and also stars Lilah Pate (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Maximo Salas (Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies), Kelley Pereira, Marley Aliah, Mark Wystrach (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Brooklyn Decker (Grace and Frankie), Hayes MacArthur (Angie Tribeca), and Shea Pritchard (Going Viral).

As a series, The Runarounds does show the hard reality of making it as musicians, especially in today’s digital climate: “Bands are hard, it is hard to make a decision to jump from something safe and easy and make a leap of faith,” Jeremy says.

While the show is fictional and the band is real, each member takes on a different character. Axel, who plays Neil, says “I feel [like I played] an exaggerated version of me or who I was in high school. Sometimes he’s the philosophical stoner of the group, and sometimes his opinion makes sense and is grounded, but sometimes it’s just a cloud of smoke, you kind of have to pick and choose with him, and me.”
