We were joined back on the Popternative show by Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets, Heated Rivalry) to discuss the new supernatural horror, Whistle, premiering in theaters February 6. She stars alongside Dafne Keen (Deadpool & Wolverine, His Dark Materials), Sky Yang (Last Days, Rebel Moon), Jhaleil Swaby (White Dog, The Lake), Ali Skovbye (Firefly Lane, Once Upon a Time), Percy Hynes White (My Old Ass, Wednesday), Michelle Fairley (Gangs of London, Game of Thrones), and Nick Frost (How to Train Your Dragon, Get Away).
In Whistle, a group of high schoolers come into possession of a sinister relic: an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. When its shrill cry is unleashed, it calls forth violent manifestations of their own fates, sent to stalk and kill them. With each blast adding to the growing death toll, the group digs into the dark history of the artifact, racing against time to undo the nightmare they’ve awakened.
“I think what really drew me to this project was this concept of this group that felt very campy and it was like, who are you rooting for? And then the second you kind of yourself attached or care for a character, they kind of just vanish and so quickly. I think I was always waiting for them to come back, but they just keep dropping like flies. There’s just no mercy in this script. From the very opening [it is] just raw and merciless,” Nélisse says.

Nélisse also discusses her role as Rose Landry in the hockey romance series Heated Rivalry which has become a global sensation since it first premiered in November.
On why Rose is such a beloved character, Nélisse tells us, “I think it’s because, I mean, obviously, she’s an ally, but I think it’s because everyone needs a Rose in their life. I think she has such a big heart, but at the same time, has that self-confidence and is not as scared to speak her truth. We all need someone that will have that unconditional love but that will also be our our voice when we can’t talk. And I think that’s what she offers to [Shane], that sort of safe space for him to be able to come into his own. But at the same time, she’s the one that will come and physically pick you up and tell you, ‘okay, enough, you need to take action with your life.’ I think she offers that beautiful balance of being that safe space for him.“
