We were joined on the Popternative show by Sherry Cola (Nobody Wants This, Joy Ride) to discuss her new comedy action film, Bride Hard which arrived in theaters on June 20.
The ensemble features a powerhouse lineup of comedic talent, including Rebel Wilson (The Hustle, Pitch Perfect), Anna Camp (You, Pitch Perfect), Anna Chlumsky (Inventing Anna, Veep), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers, Only Murders in the Building), Gigi Zumbado (Heart Eyes, Bridge and Tunnel), Stephen Dorff (True Detective, The Righteous Gemstones), Sam Huntington (Rosewood, Detroit Rock City), and Justin Hartley (Tracker, This Is Us).
Bride Hard follows secret agent Sam (Rebel Wilson) who is maid of honor at her best friend’s (Anna Camp) extravagant destination wedding. Out of her element and surrounded by high-maintenance bridesmaids and a strict “no weapons” policy, Sam is determined to prove she can be there for her friend.
But when a team of mercenaries crashes the party and takes the guests hostage, Sam is thrown into a fight unlike any mission before—one where she can’t risk blowing her cover or ruining the big day. As she takes on the bad guys in a high-stakes battle disguised as a fairy-tale affair, she realizes the real threat might be closer than she thinks. Sherry plays Nadine, a fellow secret agent of Sam.
On the film being more than just an action comedy, Sherry says, “There’s a lot of humanity in this story; it’s about being torn between two worlds which I think a lot of us can relate to, and Sam being the maid of honor and also trying to save the world. I think a lot of women can relate to [having to] prioritize. That’s a conflict that I think all of us go through every single day. I think painting that on screen in such a fun, bright way is just the dream.”
“For [my character] to come in on the mission aspect of it and then be kind of serious in moments, that was fun for me too. I had to keep [my character] in check,” she adds.
