We were joined on the Popternative show by Sarah Fisher (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Kiss and Cry) who stars in the new romance drama, Someone Like You, based on Karen Kingsbury’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. Someone Like You premiered in theaters nationwide in the U.S. and in Canada on April 2nd.
The film also stars Jake Allyn (No Man’s Land, The Quad), Robyn Lively (Teen Witch, The Karate Kid Part III), Bart Johnson (High School Musical I, II, III), Scott Reeves (Nashville, The Young and the Restless), and Lynn Collins (The Walking Dead, X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
Someone Like You follows young architect Dawson Gage (Jake Allyn) who is dealing with the tragic loss of his childhood best friend London (Sarah Fisher). He begins an impossible search for London’s secret twin sister, twins who were separated as embryos. He finally finds London’s twin, Andi (also played by Sarah Fisher), but Dawson never planned to fall in love.
On playing two roles in the same film, Sarah says, “I’ve never played two characters in a project before. That was one of the first things that drew me [towards the film]. It’s got to be so specific in making sure that they do have this connection but that they are still two different characters.”
When discussing preparing to play both London and Andi, Sarah tells us that the novel played a key role, “It’s such a huge tool as an actor to dive in and study a book before studying the script because there’s a different amount of detail. It dives into how they think and how they process information; that is such a gift as an actor to be able to study and read that so intensely. I was able to do that which was so wonderful before we got into rehearsals.”
