The mind-bending thriller series, Yellowjackets, is finally back for season 2, which premiered on March 24 on Showtime. Season 1 premiered in November 2021 and follows a high school girls soccer team who become the survivors of a plane crash in the northern wilderness. Told through 90s flashbacks, Yellowjackets chronicles their survival in the forest while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece together 25 years later.
The ensemble cast includes Melanie Lynskey (The Last of Us, Castle Rock), Juliette Lewis (Welcome to Chippendales, Camping), Christina Ricci (Wednesday, Sleepy Hollow), Tawny Cypress (Unforgettable, The Equalizer), Warren Kole (Why Women Kill, Shades of Blue), Ella Purnell (Star Trek: Prodigy, Sweetbitter), Samantha Hanratty (Shameless), Sophie Thatcher (The Book of Boba Fett, Prospect), Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief), Steven Krueger (The Originals, Roswell, New Mexico), Kevin Alves (Locke & Key, Shadowhunters), Liv Hewson (Santa Clarita Diet, Dramaworld), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream VI, The Leftovers), Courtney Eaton (Parachute, Mad Max: Fury Road), Sarah Desjardins (The Night Agent, Riverdale), Alex Wyndham (The Crimson Field), Alexa Barajas (The Flash), and Luciano Leroux (A Million Little Things). Simone Kessell (Reckoning, Obi-Wan Kenobi), Lauren Ambrose (Servant, Six Feet Under), and Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings film trilogy) join the series for season 2.
Samantha Hanratty, who plays Teen Misty (adult Misty is portrayed by Christina Ricci), joined us on the Popternative show to discuss the new season of Yellowjackets and Teen Misty’s character development from season 1.
We asked Samantha about portraying the younger version of Christina Ricci’s Misty, and she explains that there was very little planning involved: “People are always like, REALLY? But the truth is no. We met up one time, we had a great lunch, we did talk about Misty of course, but it was more like ‘what did you hear’ and we see each other at events and that’s pretty much it. I really love the girl but there’s so much life happening, we have so much going on […] so really we didn’t talk too much about it but somehow it turned out so seamless.”
