We were joined on the Popternative show by Sam Reid who stars in AMC and AMC+’s Interview with the Vampire as vampire Lestat de Lioncourt. The critically acclaimed gothic horror series is based on Anne Rice’s book of the same name and premiere with its first season in October 2022. Second 2 premiered on May 12th, 2024 where the interview continues.
The series also stars Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones, Broadchurch), Eric Bogosian (Billions, Succession), Assad Zaman (Hotel Portofino, Apple Tree Yard), Delainey Hayles (Holby City, Too Close), and Ben Daniels (The Crown, The Exorcist).
In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Anderson) recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy (Bogosian). Picking up from the bloody events in New Orleans in 1940 when Louis and teen fledgling Claudia (Hayles) conspired to kill the Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Reid), Louis tells of his adventures in Europe, a quest to discover Old World Vampires and the Theatre Des Vampires in Paris, with Claudia. It is in Paris that Louis first meets the Vampire Armand (Zaman). Their courtship and love affair will prove to have devastating consequences both in the past and in the future, and Molloy will probe to get to the truths buried within the memories.

When asked about what audiences can expect from season 2, Sam tells us, “The world cracks open, you saw a crack of it in season one, and now it explodes open. It’s a much bigger world, there’s a lot more vampires. You find out a lot more of the history about them and the lore. And you also learn why the interview is happening. It’s an extraordinary sort of piece of closure I think on that, when you find that out, you realize why you’re watching. Stick with it to the end, the end is deeply satisfying.”
Sam also discusses the source material including the Anne Rice books and 1994 film adaptation which he often goes to for scene preparation. Watch the full conversation below.
New episodes of Interview with the Vampire air Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and stream on AMC+
