We Were joined on the Popternative show by Rainn Wilson to discuss his new 5-episode travel docuseries, Rainn Wilson and The Geography of Bliss, which premiered on May 18 on Peacock. Rainn Wilson, Dave Sirulnick, Jen Isaacson, Jon Kamen, Evan Rosenfeld, Casey Scharf, and Melissa Wood serve as Executive Producers, with Eric Weiner as Co-Executive Producer.
Synopsis
Host and intrepid traveler Rainn Wilson traverses the globe searching for the secrets to the happiest societies on earth. Based on Eric Weiner’s New York Times bestselling book, “The Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World,” Rainn will explore some of the happiest and least happy places on earth from Iceland to Qatar to Ghana, and in a profound, humorous, and experiential way that unpacks the science of happiness.

In our interview, Rainn explains how he and the procuders chose the areas visited:
“We knew we wanted to go to Africa and Asia as well as Europe and Scandinavia where often times the happiest people are supposed to be living. So there’s a lot of options that are floated around, and then Peacock weighs in as well and that’s how we settled on Iceland, Ghana, Bulgaria, and Thailand. We wanted to go to Japan but the COVID restrictions were a little too tricky to travel there this last summer. But hopefully we get a season 2 and can go to Japan.”
