We recently chatted with young actor Peyton R. Perrine III about playing Marky in the series That Girl Lay Lay on Nickelodeon. Check out what he had to say about the series and his acting experiences.

When did you decide that acting was something you wanted to do?

When I was younger, I did a family game show, commercials, and some short films. I was trying it out and thought it was fun. I decided I really wanted to start acting after I watched the rerun episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I loved that show so much! Will and Carlton were so funny and it sparked something in me that wanted to do it too. So, when I got a chance to audition for TV, I felt I could do it!

Why do you act? What do you love the most about it?

I act because it just makes me feel so good! It’s fun playing different characters and having the chance to be goofy. What I love most about it is working with the cast and crew. I love the people I work with and they have become my family during this process.

What can you tell us about That Girl Lay Lay on Nickelodeon?

The show is about a high school teenage girl named Sadie who has an affirmation app on her phone named Lay Lay. Sadie wishes Lay Lay was real because she doesn’t have many friends. Well, after wishing on a shooting star, Lay Lay really does come to life. Lay Lay comes out of the phone and they go through all of these crazy adventures while becoming best friends.

What can you tell us about your character on the show?

My character’s name is Marky and he is Sadie’s little brother. He’s a 10-year-old little businessman who is always up to something to try and make money. If he didn’t have money, I don’t know if he would survive. LOL! Marky can uncover a business opportunity out of any situation and loves trying to get his family and friends in on it!

What was the best advice someone has ever given you on set?

Great advice started being given to me before I even got to set. When I first got the part, I thanked David A. Arnold and the other executives for giving me the opportunity and he said “No, let me stop you there. We didn’t give you anything, you earned it. Just keep doing what you’re doing.” I was really thankful to hear that. I was so nervous because this was my first TV show. I was trying to keep cool. Once I was on set, Gwenn who is our on-set acting coach gave me some great advice. She said, “acting is not about the words, it’s about telling the story with your intentions and actions”. And my TV sis Gabrielle Nevaeh Green also gave me some great advice on set…she taught me how to do my first TikTok.

When people watch That Girl Lay Lay, what are you hoping they get out of it?

For one, I hope they LOVE the show! I hope it makes them laugh a lot and feel good. But also, I hope they get the life lessons in each episode cause at the end of the day you gotta learn something…right?
