We were joined on the Popternative show by Paris Berelc (Alexa & Katie) and Asher Angel (Shazam! Fury of the Gods) who star in the new rom-com Kissing is the Easy Part, based on the popular Wattpad webnovel by Christine Duann, adapted by Rebecca Webb.
Directed by Fawzia Mirza (The Queen of My Dreams), Kissing is the Easy Part premiered on February 13 on Tubi, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The film also stars Jennifer Robertson (Schitt’s Creek), Hayley Festeryga (Out Standing), Roshahn Dhoré (Ripple), Mark Ballantyne (The Way Home), Rosalie Turmel (Cirkus), and Rizwan Manji (Paterson).
Kissing is the Easy Part follows a straight-A overachiever, Sean, (Angel) who makes a deal to tutor a popular wild child Flora (Berelc) in exchange for a college recommendation letter to his dream school, but when sparks fly, school is the least of their problems.
On preparing for her role, Paris explains her approach, “I really focus on relationships with each individual character. We had conversations about our relationships and our history, and Hayley and Roshahn, [our characters] are best friends in the film. And so I was like, okay, how did they become best friends? And what we made up was that they did a school play and they all played trees. I like doing that with each person because I think the the history between characters is so important and it gives you all the opportunity to be able to play, to be able to improv.”
