We were joined on the Popternative show by four-time Academy Award-winning director Nick Park and Emmy Award-nominated director Merlin Crossingham to discuss the newest Wallace & Gromit installment. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is co-directed by Park and Crossingham, and will premiere globally (except for the U.K.) on Netflix on January 3.

Vengeance Most Fowl is a sequel to Park’s 1993 short The Wrong Trousers, and is Wallace and Gromit‘s second feature-length film. Vengeance Most Fowl follows Gromit’s growing concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions. When Wallace invents a “smart” gnome that seems to develop a mind of its own, a vengeful figure from the past might be the mastermind behing things.

The film also recently earned a Golden Globes nomination for Best Motion Picture- Animated.

In our interview, Nick and Merlin discuss some of the challenges with stop-motion animation such as portraying emotions without characters speaking. This of course includes Gromit – and Feathers McGraw – the villainous penguin who makes his return in Vengeance Most Fowl.

Watch the full conversation with Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham below.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl premieres on Netflix January 3.
