We were joined on the Popternative show by Mishael Morgan (The Young and the Restless, Hearts Around the Table films) and Corey Sevier (The Christmas Charade, Heart of the Holidays), stars of Hallmark Channel’s newest fall romance, Pumpkin Regatta Romance. The film premiered September 26 and is now streaming on Hallmark+.
In Pumpkin Regatta Romance, an old family feud threatens to put a beloved small-town tradition on the line. When their fathers refuse to move past a long-standing disagreement, Nadine, the daughter of a boat shop owner, and Ethan, a pumpkin farmer, join forces to heal the rift and bring the town’s Pumpkin Regatta back to life. Along the way, their shared mission sparks an unexpected romance.
Although Pumpkin Regatta Romance was filmed in the early days of Spring, the production team transformed the set into a convincing autumn setting with and plenty of details. “We were so lucky. We had an incredible team, and the set design was incredible because we were shooting this in May, everything was blooming. It was the opposite [of Fall]. It was very green. But we would walk on set and there was no denying that it was Fall, [there were] pumpkins everywhere. I joked that, you know, we were getting haunted by pumpkins because everywhere we looked there were pumpkins. So it was a beautiful set design and it made it really easy for us to just be like, “Yeah, it’s definitely Fall,”” Morgan says.
A big part of the charm of Pumpkin Regatta Romance comes from the natural chemistry between Nadine and Ethan, played by Morgan and Sevier. For Sevier, that connection came easily due to their shared sense of humor and the similarities they discovered off-screen. “When you work with someone like Mishael, who’s such an incredible actress and person, we just found this easy chemistry. We had so much in common in real life and then we just sort of [played off of that]. At the same time you have all the fun, but you also want to find those moments to drop into the real depth so that you can pull on the heartstrings a little bit too.”
