We were joined back on the Popternative show by Maya Rudolph whose workplace comedy series, Loot, returned for its second season on April 3rd. The Apple TV+ series follows billionaire Molly Novak (Rudolph) who is newly divorced from a tech billionaire and now has an $87 billion settlement. Molly soon discovers she owns a charity foundation and embarks on a new life as a philanthropist and a journey of self-discovery. Molly also makes the promise to give away all of her fortune, and the new season follows her deciding how to do just that.
Loot also stars Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (Pose), Ron Funches (Harley Quinn), Nat Faxon (The Way Back), Joel Kim Booster (Fire Island), Adam Scott (Severance), Meagen Fay (Magnolia), and Stephanie Styles (Bombshell).
On getting to play Molly for a second season, Maya says, “It’s fun to get to have a season two because now you get to play. You’ve laid the foundation, and now you get to plug everything, so it’s not just all the fun of your character and what they do, but also the other characters and how they interact. And that’s the most fun place to be in any sort of work comedy; it’s like getting all your action figures to play together.”
Maya also discusses her previous work including Bridesmaids and her time on Saturday Night Live as a cast member from 2000-2007. It was recently announced that she will return as host for the third time on May 11th. “I love the process of [Saturday Night Live]. I loved it working there, I love it when I go back, I love thinking about how incedible it is to put on a show in that short amount of time,” Maya tells us.
