We rcently spoke with actress Maryam Basir who stars in ALLBLK’s new series, Lace. It premiered on November 4th, and episodes are released to stream weekly via ALLBLK.

Lace Synopsis
‘LACE’ introduces viewers to Lacey McCullough (Maryam Basir) who is a powerful lawyer in Los Angeles with a clientele list of even more powerful shifters and shakers. McCullough will stop at almost nothing to keep her clients happy. Just how far will she travel down the rabbit hole, though?
We asked Maryam about how she got into acting and what we can expect from Lace. Check it out below!
When did you decide that storytelling and acting was something you wanted to do?
Maryam Basir (MB): When I first moved to NYC, I immediately got the acting bug and started loving the entire process. It’s exactly that: telling a story. It feels good to be a part of a film or tv show that can be so important in someone’s life, even changing it. I’m sure we can all remember that movie that changed our mind about something, or opened our eyes, or inspired us. I enjoy being a part of that.
What advice would you give to people pursuing acting?
MB: Go for it! It takes a lot of perseverance and grit, but if you stick in there and take it seriously, you’re bound to get to your destination. Just don’t stop. Take breaks if you need but keep going. Also enjoy the ride – it’s not about the destination anyway – the fun is in the journey. So enjoy the ups and downs, highs and lows and everything in between.
What was your first acting role?
MB: A Burger King commercial. I got my SAG card from that.
What do you enjoy the most about acting?
MB: The spontaneity – the fact that I wake up every day to something different. I meet so many cool creatives who are passionately pursuing their dreams and that’s inspiring! There’s even spontaneity in the moments between us actors, while we do our scenes. We feed off of each others’ reactions to get to the real stuff, and sometimes my fellow actor does something super exciting that I don’t expect, and that’s where the fun comes in. It’s so satisfying!
What can you tell us about Lace?
MB: Oh..em..gheeeeThis show! It’s one of my favorite things in the world. And I’m not just saying that because I’m Lace. It’s truly incredible storytelling and is amazing creators, directors, producers, actors, crew, glam team and star actors come together. To watch “LACE,” from the intro to the end credits, is to take an adventurous ride with interesting and meaningful characters on a roller coaster of emotions that include scandalous scenarios, and to be left wanting and needing more at the end. That’s the experience. It’s such a great show.
When people watch Lace, what are you hoping they get out of it?
MB: I hope the show brings them intrigue, excitement, connection with the characters, inspiration, inclusiveness – I want people to see themselves and what they can be, in LACE.
